My journey with chronic illness began years ago.
What started as subtle symptoms early in my adult life eventually developed into ongoing physical challenges that affected me for many years. Like so many others navigating chronic illness, I spent years consulting doctors, seeing specialists, and exploring both conventional and alternative approaches, hoping to understand what was happening in my body.
Prior to becoming seriously ill, I was healthy, active, athletic, and independent. Although I had experienced various symptoms over the years, they were not severe enough to prevent me from living my life. Over time, however, those symptoms continued to worsen until one day, everything changed.
In my late twenties, my health declined dramatically–quite literally overnight. I was forced to leave my job, and the symptoms affected nearly every aspect of my life. There were periods when I was bedridden and I could no longer show up in my life, my work, or for family the way I once had. The independence and active lifestyle I had always known were suddenly gone.
Throughout that journey, I received a variety of diagnoses and labels, including late stage Lyme disease, POTS, vertigo, SIBO and autoimmune-related conditions. Yet despite the diagnoses, I still felt there was very little understanding of why my body was struggling the way it was. I underwent numerous treatments, took medications, and pursued many different approaches with no improvement.
Appointment after appointment, I hoped someone would finally help me make sense of what was happening. Instead, I often left with more labels, more uncertainty, and more questions than answers. Not knowing why was something I couldn’t simply accept. I needed to understand what was happening inside my body and whether there was hope for getting my life back.
Then life presented me with an even greater challenge.
Soon after my youngest daughter was born she began facing serious health challenges of her own. Once again, we found ourselves searching for answers that no one seemed able to provide. Watching someone you love suffer is heartbreaking. Watching your child suffer while feeling powerless to help is something I can hardly put into words. I knew I couldn’t stop searching, not just for myself, but for her.
Desperate for answers, I immersed myself in research, wellness education, nutrition and holistic approaches to health. Through that process, I was eventually led to the work of New York Times bestselling holistic health author Anthony William. His information offered a perspective that resonated deeply with me and inspired me to continue seeking answers, asking questions, and exploring new ways to support our health. For the very first time, the questions I had been carrying for years began to make sense.
As I applied what I was learning, I experienced remarkable improvements in my own health, healing dozens of symptoms that impacted me for years. Even more incredibly, my daughter’s health began to transform as well. She went from struggling with significant health challenges to thriving in ways I once only hoped were possible. Witnessing her recovery changed not only my understanding of wellness but also my belief in the body’s incredible capacity to heal.
That journey completely changed the way I viewed health. I came to understand that chronic symptoms don’t simply appear without reason. There are real root causes, and we are not powerless in the face of chronic illness. For the first time in years, I felt something I hadn’t felt in a very long time–hope.
Looking back, I realize my journey wasn’t only about recovering my health. It was about discovering a purpose I never expected.
The years I spent searching for answers shaped the way I listen, the way I learn, and the way I support others today. They inspired me to become the practitioner I had spent so many years searching for myself.
No matter how long you’ve been searching or how discouraged you may feel, your story is still being written. Sometimes the answers we’re searching for simply haven’t crossed our paths yet.
Keep asking questions. Continue learning. Hold on to hope. A single new understanding has the power to change the direction of your story in ways you never imagined.
With hope,
Karie
